While broadband access technologies are gradually democratizing in France, a new digital divide is emerging in Very High Speed (THD). In order to overcome this new imbalance, to provide France with efficient infrastructures and thus to strengthen the competitiveness and attractiveness of our country, the President of the Republic has set ambitious targets for THD coverage of the territory: 70% of French households eligible in 2020, and 100% in 2025.
In this context, Arcep asked PMP to identify scenarios for the deployment of Very High Speed in rural areas, where private network deployment initiatives are virtually non-existent.
Based on an in-depth analysis of the different access technologies and their comparative, current and projected performances, a benchmark of the most ambitious foreign government programs in terms of THD coverage (USA, Australia, Netherlands … ), from the perspective of deployments of the electricity network in French rural areas, PMP proposed several multi-technology deployment scenarios (wired and wireless) adapted to the specificities of these areas.
Arcep relied heavily on this study to produce its report to Parliament, available here .
