It also reflects the firm’s commitment to attracting top-tier talent to support its growing activity in the region and to deliver customized, high-quality analysis to its clients.
“We are pleased and humbled to welcome Richard Knowlton to our team,” said Nicolas, Partner at PMP Strategy USA. “We had the opportunity to meet Richard early in our journey in North America. He has been a great help in establishing our brand by co-authoring a leading white paper on open-access three years ago. It is an honor to work with Richard and benefit from his unparalleled knowledge of the U.S. telecom space, coupled with his financial acumen. Richard’s appointment is a testament to our dedication to providing unparalleled expertise beyond the traditional market studies performed by commercial advisors and delivering tailor-made solutions to our clients.”
Richard Knowlton is a seasoned expert in the Technology, Media, and Telecom (TMT) sectors, with over 25 years of experience. His career is a testament to his leadership and innovative approach, having held pivotal roles at Société Générale in New York. As Managing Director and Chairman of TMT Americas, Richard spearheaded the development of a comprehensive TMT sector strategy, integrating large-cap coverage, financial sponsor engagement, digital infrastructure, M&A, securitization, and distribution.
Richard’s professional journey is marked by transformative achievements, such as leading the structuring and execution of OpCo/HoldCo financings in metro enterprise fiber, structuring and successfully syndicating a greenfield FTTH transaction with no minimum volume commitment and pioneering Société Générale’s first datacenter transaction in the early 2000s.
Throughout his career, he has demonstrated an exceptional ability to innovate and execute complex financial transactions. He formed an internal joint venture with the infrastructure team to deliver groundbreaking hybrid financing structures for digital infrastructure, including data centers and fiber networks. His leadership in originating and executing lead arranging and underwriting mandates in software, ad-tech, internet, entertainment services, and cybersecurity segments has been instrumental in securing first-time issuer ratings from Moody’s and S&P.
Richard’s expertise extends to negotiating and documenting underwriting and lending commitments, managing deal teams, and responding to lender and investor inquiries. His strategic insights have been pivotal in executing high-profile transactions, such as the first successfully syndicated cell tower ground lease transaction and the development of multi-layer financing structures for digital cinema rollouts.
Richard holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Stanford University and a Master of Business Administration from Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business.
